Description

This dataset comprises the MISR-derived output from a comprehensive analysis of wildfire plumes observed across Canada and Alaska from May-September of 2016-2019. The data presented here are analyzed and discussed in the following paper: Junghenn Noyes, K.T., R.A. Kahn, J.A. Limbacher, and Z. Li, 2022. Canadian and Alaskan Wildfire Smoke Particle Properties, Their Evolution, and Controlling Factors, Using Satellite Observations. Atm. Chem. Phys. (in press).

The data is subdivided by MISR orbit number, with each case folder containing the data for all fires observed in that orbit. These include:

1. The plume height and wind vector retrievals from the MISR Interactive eXplorer (MINX) software tool, displayed in: map view, downwind profile plot, a histogram of retrieved plume heights, and a text file containing the digital plume height values and wind vectors. There is also an additional file displaying the plume analysis region and plume outline.

2. The particle property retrievals generated by the MISR Research Aerosol (RA) retrieval algorithm (Limbacher, J.A., and R.A. Kahn, 2014. MISR Research-Aerosol-Algorithm: Refinements For Dark Water Retrievals. Atm. Meas. Tech. 7, 1-19, doi:10.5194/amt-7-1-2014), in HDF5 format. The key derived variables in these files are Aerosol Optical Depth, Angstrom Exponent, Single Scattering Albedo, and a fraction of non-spherical components.
